CEO, owner and later chairman of board

Cegal AS

Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Informasjonsteknologi og -tjenester industry

June 2000January 2011 (10 years 8 months) Stavanger Area, Norway

This is the hardest startup ever, hiring, getting business locations etc. was as normal, but WM Data suddently decieded to try and block all Cegals activity by legal actions. They came to their senses and redraw all allegations, but they managed to put some hurdles in our way, guess that was their intent. WM Data also decieded to fully explore the ASP business modell heavily, they burnt alot of cash but never succeeded. Cegal was sold one year later to Song Networks, to be a vital part of their infrastructure buildup in Norway. Unfortunately they had more cash than means to fulfill that vision. Cegal was put on hold, all employees where either fired or transfered to Intellinet ASA together with data center and customer contracts. Intellinet ASA went bust summer 2002, i got all previous shareholders together and we bought Cegal AS back from Song Networks (now TDC AS). So back to square one, we manged to build one of the most successfull IT operation business comany in Norway during the next 8 years. In january 2011 we sold majority of shares to a Norvestor as. In 2011 Cegal is aprox 80 employee, 120 mill revenue and operating profit around 20%

We tried to maintain business model within WM Data, but they showed little to no support. I also believe the huge culturelle difference between sweedish and west coast of Norway in how to operate a business, was a major player in this not working

The ID Scandinavia changed top leader, downgraded my boss in ID Network Norway to manager, i quit and found out how valuable non listed privately owned stocks where. I started up a highly specialiced group with focus on centralized computing with Cimtec as 50% owner. We had some great years with 8-9 employees, some of the best guys in Norway. Cimtec was sold to WM Data and Intratecs business modell did not go well with WM Datas business model, even after two visits to Stockholm there was no interest in supporting ASP as a business model. I quit in march 2000, owners of Acta, a long time customer who greatly benefitted from the centralized computer structure we buildt for them invested in my new company Cegal AS.

We seperated the operation in Emma EDB Rogaland into a pure SW company, Emma EDB Rogaland and infrastructure company ID Network Stavanger AS. We became part of ID Scandinavia group and they became major share holders in our company. Started out in new office location in sjøveien, Forus with three employees and grew into larger office location downtown Stavanger, Løkkeveien. We did well and managed to profitable from day one... By 1996 we where 17 employees and specialiced in infrastructure and centralized computing with Novell and remote boot to "dum" PCs, beginning of ASP.

Bank chrises, forced owner of Emma EDB to lay down all activity. Three colleges and myself bought the customer base and continued in our own company. Exciting time to say the least, i just bought a house and morgage was hard to finance.
